Nicole Ackermann is a filmmaker driven by the emotional heart of storytelling. Her work blends visual elegance with a deeply intuitive approach to performance, creating images that feel soulful and emotionally connected.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Nicole began her film studies at Wits University and completed her education through a scholarship programme at NYU Tisch.

After immersing herself in the advertising world as a creative researcher and director’s assistant and interning at TBWA Hunt Lascaris, Nicole began her directing career as part of the directing duo PHI.

Since directing solo, she has collaborated with leading global brands, including Universal Studios, Pepsi, Dell, Lexus, and The Economist, and has worked with iconic figures such as Morgan Freeman, David Beckham, and Simone Biles.

At the core of her work is an ability to distil a story to its essence and craft a unique visual language that serves its emotional truth. Nicole is especially passionate about working with actors. Her process is intimate and collaborative, rooted in trust and presence, allowing for performances that feel authentic and alive.

Nicole recently completed her first short film and is developing a feature film and a television series with Merman. She is based in Los Angeles.
